Welcome to our review of the Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder. Wildgame Innovations produces hunting optics at economical prices, but how well does this rangefinder perform? We gave it a try, and here is what we learned.

What’s the Range of the Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder

The Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder advertises a range of 600 yards to a reflective target. In our testing, though, we found it was very difficult to get an accurate range reading from beyond 200 yards. In fact, any wildlife past 100 yards won’t even register, so you have to find a larger object near your target and estimate the range from that.

How Easy is the Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder to Use?

This rangefinder is relatively easy to use, but it lacks any image stabilization. This means that if you are standing, you should lean against a solid object when you try to take a reading. For the price, though, I wouldn’t expect much better.

The single operational button is small and padded, making it very easy to depress if you have small or medium hands. If you have large hands or are wearing gloves, though, the button might be difficult to press.

The display gives you the distance to your target as well as the angle, allowing you to account for slope when you are ready to take your shot.

How is the Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder Powered?

This rangefinder uses an expensive and sometimes hard to find CR2 battery, and it does not come with a battery. I would have rather seen the device use AA batteries, but at least it is not powered by a 9V battery. Battery life is quite good, and the rangefinder powers off after 20 seconds of inactivity.

What Features Can I Expect From the Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder?

The Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder provides 6X magnification, allowing you to zoom in on your target to get a reading. It also features a scan mode for constant ranging, but the rangefinder requires manual focus. The focus knob is very stiff, making it difficult to get the most out of the scan function when trying to range multiple targets or a moving target.

What’s the Light Gathering Capability Like on the Rangefinder?

The light gathering capability of this rangefinder is mediocre at best, and the rangefinder is almost useless in low light conditions. You can see the image well enough, but cannot make out any details when your target is in shadows or the lighting is poor. To make matters worse, the LCD display uses a gray font that is almost impossible to discern when it is dark.

How Are the Optics and Focus on This Rangefinder?

The Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder features a 23mm objective lens, with a 15.5mm eye lens. The eye lens is anti-fog, but the rangefinder’s optics barrel is not nitrogen-filled so it is not truly fogproof. I found that in exceptionally cold temperatures, the rangefinder would fog up at least a little bit.

The focus is manual, and the focus knob is stiff and difficult to use. Because of the tiny form factor of this rangefinder, you may find it next to impossible to use the focus knob if you are wearing gloves. This is a pretty huge flaw, in my opinion, and might be a deciding factor in whether or not you purchase this particular rangefinder.

How Durable is the Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder?

The Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder is not fogproof or waterproof, but it is water resistant. If you are using it in rain, it should be safe, but I would not recommend allowing this rangefinder to take a dunk! The housing of the rangefinder is rubber-padded for safety, but there is still a bit too much plastic exposed for me to recommend dropping the rangefinder. I did drop it once without any harm, but the fall was only a few feet.

Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder Review Summary

Thanks for reading this review of the Wildgames Innovations Halo X Ray 600 Laser Rangefinder. This rangefinder is decent enough for distances of 100 yards or less, but becomes very ineffective beyond 100 yards. If you are a bowhunter, this rangefinder might be perfect for you if you have small enough hands to use it easily. If, however, you want to get ranges beyond 100 yards, you should probably look at a different rangefinder.
