Welcome to our review of the Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope. This spotting scope is designed for shooting and viewing wildlife, and is part of Tasco’s "World Class" lineup of products. Does this spotting scope live up to that name, though? Let’s take a look and find out.
What Comes in the Box?
The first thing you need to know is what you should expect to get in the box when you purchase the Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope. This spotting scope includes everything you need to make the most of your spotting scope, including:
- Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope
- Aluminum hard carrying case
- Fabric carrying case
- Tabletop tripod
Considering the price of this spotting scope is under a hundred dollars, that’s a pretty impressive collection of accessories that comes with the spotting scope. The tabletop tripod, unfortunately, is almost useless for most users, because it does not have the ability to pan vertically. You can only pan from side to side.
What’s the Magnification of the Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope
This spotting scope features a 60mm objective lens, and has adjustable zoom from 20X to 60X. This is an excellent range of magnification, and should be more than suitable for even the longest range shooter. I’ve personally used this to spot hits from as far away as 500 yards.
How Easy is the Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope to Use?
This spotting scope is exceptionally easy to use, but the tripod is not so much so. I ended up ditching the included tabletop tripod and using my own.
The focus ring spins with just enough friction to keep you from accidentally bumping it, but is not so stiff as to be difficult to use. The zoom ring works equally well, allowing you to quickly and easily zoom from 20X to maximum 60X magnification when you need to.
What’s the Light Gathering Capability Like on the Spotting Scope?
Since the optics are just fully coated, the 60mm objective lens does not have the light gathering capability I would expect from something labeled "World Class." Images are a bit dark, but are still very viewable and easy to discern. I wouldn’t want to use this spotting scope for locating small details in shadows, though.
How Are the Optics and Focus on This Spotting Scope?
The optics of the Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope are fully coated, but are not multi-coated. This means that all of the air-to-glass surfaces are coated with a single layer of coating, which improves the light transmission of the scope somewhat, but not as much as I would have liked. Even so, the images are crisp and clear and have plenty of contrast.
The eye relief on this spotting scope is next to nothing, with a mere 18mm eye relief. This means that you have to have your eye almost completely on top of the eye piece to use the spotting scope.
The Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope uses BK7 prism glass, instead of the more clear and crisp BaK-4 prism glass that other spotting scopes use.
The field of view for this spotting scope is a very comfortable 91 feet at 1,000 yards with 20X magnification, and 45 feet at 1,000 yards with 60X magnification. This is more than enough field of view for birding, checking your shots at the range, or spotting in the field when hunting. You can focus on objects as close as 11 feet, or as far away as infinity.
Focus of the Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope is very good, allowing you to quickly and easily bring objects into focus. Images are crisp and clear and in excellent resolution, making this scope very good for use at all ranges. The only downfall is the aforementioned darkness of the image.
What’s the Housing Like on the Spotting Scope?
The housing of the Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope is covered in rubberized armor coating, which provides an excellent amount of bump and shock resistance. The housing features a tripod mount, as most spotting scopes do, that works with the included tabletop tripod as well as with any standard tripod.
How Durable is the Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope?
The Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope is very durable, being coated in rubber armor to protect it against bumps and drops. The spotting scope features O-ring sealed lenses, so it is waterproof, and the barrel is nitrogen-filled to make it fog proof, too. I’ve dropped this spotting scope several times, and it has not affected its use at all.
Tasco World Class 20-60×60 Zoom Spotting Scope Review Summary
Thanks for reading this review of the Tasco World Class 20-60x60 Zoom Spotting Scope. This spotting scope is a good value, and will provide years of use at the shooting range or in the wild viewing birds or other wildlife. Unfortunately, it features a bit darker image than some of the competition, so if you plan to try spotting things in shaded areas, you may want to select a different model.
